The original homeowner EV charger grant has ended, but several schemes still help drivers and businesses cover installation costs. Here is what is available in 2026.
Government support for home EV charging has narrowed since the early days, but it hasn't disappeared — and in April 2026 the main grants were increased to up to £500 per socket. While the original grant for homeowners with off-street parking closed back in 2022, targeted schemes remain — particularly for people in rented homes and flats, residential landlords, and businesses. As an OZEV-approved installer, we can advise on what you may be eligible for and handle the installation. Always check the latest eligibility on gov.uk, as scheme rules change.
The EV Chargepoint Grant now provides up to £500 towards the cost of a home charger (or 75% of the total cost, whichever is lower) for people who live in rented accommodation or own a flat — groups the earlier homeowner scheme left out. You'll need off-street parking and an eligible vehicle, and the charger must be fitted by an OZEV-approved installer, who deducts the grant directly from your invoice. The scheme is currently available until 31 March 2027, so it's a worthwhile saving if you qualify.
Businesses can access the Workplace Charging Scheme, which now contributes up to £500 per socket — for up to 40 sockets — towards installing chargepoints for staff and fleet use. Residential and commercial landlords can also claim up to £500 per socket through the dedicated landlord grant. If you run a business in the North West, our commercial EV charging team can scope this out with you.
Grants help with the upfront cost, but the larger long-term saving comes from how you charge. A dedicated EV tariff lets you charge overnight for a fraction of the daytime rate, and a smart charger schedules this automatically. Pair it with solar panels and you can top up your car with free daytime generation — see our guide on solar panels and EV charging.
Whatever grant applies, a home charger must be installed safely and to current regulations. Our team fits OZEV-approved chargers across Lancashire — see our EV charger installations or our installation guide. Get a free quote to book yours.
