The panels start working as soon as there is daylight. The house runs on its own power first, and what is left over starts filling the battery.
By late morning the battery is full. The surplus is exported to the grid, and you are paid for it through the Smart Export Guarantee.
Demand peaks just as the panels stop. The battery takes over, so you are not buying electricity at the most expensive time of day.
The house barely sips power. In winter, when the sun cannot fill the battery, an off-peak tariff tops it up at the cheap overnight rate.
