GM Electrical Services is Preston’s local solar installer, based just across the Ribble in Penwortham. We’ve fitted hundreds of solar PV systems across the city and its villages, and being on your doorstep means fast surveys, quick installs and aftercare you can actually rely on.
From terraced homes in Ashton and Deepdale to family houses in Fulwood, Broughton, Cottam and Penwortham, every system is MCS-certified — so it qualifies for zero VAT and Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) payments — and designed around your specific roof and electricity usage.
Preston sits in one of the better sun-exposure zones in the North West. A well-designed 4kW system on a Preston roof typically generates around 3,600 kWh a year — enough to cover a large share of a household’s daytime electricity. For bigger homes, or those with an EV or heat pump, we regularly install 6kW, 8kW and 10kW systems.
Whether you’ve a south-facing semi in Fulwood, a mid-terrace in Ashton or an east-west split roof on a newer build in Cottam, we design the array around your orientation, pitch and any shading. We handle the full G98/G99 DNO application on your behalf, and most installs are completed in one to two days.
Solar alone cuts your daytime bills; add a battery and you can store surplus generation for the evening peak, when grid electricity is most expensive. Many Preston customers fit both at once — see our battery storage in Preston page for details.

It depends on system size, panel choice and whether you add battery storage, so we always quote per property after a free site survey. Thanks to MCS accreditation, domestic solar installations are zero-rated for VAT. For a full breakdown, see our guide on solar panel costs.
Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not just direct sun, so they still produce useful power on overcast Lancashire days — just less than in bright conditions. Output is lower in winter and higher across the long summer days, and a year-round system is sized with that in mind.
For most Preston homes, solar panels are permitted development and don’t need planning permission. Exceptions can apply in conservation areas or on listed buildings — we’ll advise you during the survey.
A typical domestic solar install in Preston is completed in one to two days, including scaffolding, mounting, the inverter and commissioning. We register the system and provide your full handover and MCS documentation afterwards.
